From Glasgow (4.5 hours)

A82 and A87
Leave Glasgow on the A82 and stay on this road until Invergarry – Stunning drive through Loch Lomond and Glencoe. Turn left onto the A87 and stay on this road for 37.7 miles. Turn left at the junction to stay on A87. Stay on the A87 through Glen Shiel and past Eilean Donan Castle, through Kyle of Lochalsh and then over the Skye Bridge. Be aware Sat Nav may direct you via Mallaig/Ferry as opposed to the road bridge – this could result in a lengthy detour.

From the Skye Bridge (19 minutes)

Once over the bridge, take the 3rd exit at the roundabout. Continue on this road (A87) for 5.6 miles Turn left towards Armadale and continue on this road (A851) for 4.6 miles Slow down when you see a bus stop and post box on the right hand side, the right turn to Drumfearn is just after this. Turn right into Drumfearn and continue on this single track road for 1.2 miles. We are the second opening on the right after the mussel farm sheds. Stonechat Bothy is signposted from the bottom of our drive.

From Edinburgh (5 hours)

A9 and A87 Get onto the A90 out of Edinburgh going North – Over the Forth Road Bridge and onto M90 After 26 miles exit towards Stirling/Crianlarich/Inverness/A9 At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto A9 After 2.5 miles at the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and stay on A9. Stay on the A9 for 53 miles. Turn left at A889 (General Wade’s Military Road) towards Dalwhinnie Distillery. After approx 9 miles turn left onto A86 After 28 miles, at Spean Bridge, turn right onto A82. After 15 miles (Invergarry) turn left onto A87. Turn left at the junction to stay on A87. Stay on the A87 through Glen Shiel and past Eilean Donan Castle, through Kyle of Lochalsh and then over the Skye Bridge. Be aware Sat Nav may direct you via Mallaig/Ferry as opposed to the road bridge – this could result in a lengthy detour.

From Inverness (2 hours)

Via A82 and A87 Leaving Inverness follow signs for Fort William (A82). Drive alongside Loch Ness for 27 miles until Invermoriston. Turn right onto the A887 towards Kyle of Lochalsh. This turns into the A87, continue on this road to Kyle of Lochalsh and then over the Skye Bridge.

Find Us By Ferry

Armadale/Mallaig Ferry

Over the sea to Skye with the Calmac Ferry from Mallaig. From Armadale Pier, Stonechat Bothy in only a 20 minute drive, with breathtaking views over the sound of Sleat to the Knoydart peninsula on the mainland.

Glenelg Ferry

The last operating manual turntable ferry in the world can be taken from Glenelg on the mainland over to Kylerhea, Skye. From here it is a 15 mile drive to Stonechat Bothy.

From Uig

We are just over an hour’s drive from Uig if you are planning to arrive on Skye on the ferry from the Outer Hebrides. Drive south on the A87. Just after Broadford turn right towards Armadale (A851). Drumfearn is signposted about 4.5 miles down this road.

By public transport

  • We are 13 miles from the nearest train station (Kyle of Lochalsh)
  • We are 11 miles from Armadale Pier where there is a Calmac ferry service to Skye from Mallaig on the mainland. The West Highland Railway Line from Glasgow to Mallaig runs through some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland.
  • Maclean Coaches, Telephone 01599 588222, Service 601 between Armadale and Broadford goes past Drumfearn.  There is a bus stop at the end of our road.  Stonechat Bothy is located just over a mile along the single track Drumfearn township road.
